Holland & Hygge stems from an appreciation for small, thoughtful gestures that are aesthetically pleasing and the cozy, comforting philosophy of hygge (hoo-gah). I’ve always been drawn to the idea of creating something that is not only beautifully crafted and curated, but also brings a sense of joy, warmth, and well-being to people's lives. Holland & Hygge is the culmination of my passions - design, wellness, art, travel, and the simple beauty of giving - transformed into tangible expressions of care.
Every box created is more than just a collection of items; it’s a carefully curated experience designed to evoke the feeling of hygge — that cozy contentment we find in life’s simple pleasures. Whether for a joyous celebration or a quiet, reflective moment, each gift is crafted to make every occasion feel special. I believe that life’s moments deserve to be honored with gifts as unique, creative, and luxurious as the people they’re meant for.
ABOUT Me
Hello! I’m Madison, the creator of Holland & Hygge. My journey is ultimately rooted in creativity, purpose, and a passion for thoughtful giving. From a young age, I’ve been drawn to creativity - whether it was working on arts and crafts, writing and illustrating “books,” reorganizing my room, or selling my crafts to neighbors by going door-to-door or posting pictures on mailboxes. I also loved pretending to teach, which I believe shaped my passion for giving.
As an adult, my love for design, event planning, wellness, crafting, and travel blossomed and continues to flourish. Gifting became a meaningful way for me to express my affection, and I have always taken joy in thoughtfully choosing items, selecting the perfect card, and wrapping it beautifully.
With all my passions in mind, life also presented challenges that shifted my perspective and changed my life. In 2022, my husband was injured in an accident, leaving him in a wheelchair for several months, while I dealt with chronic health issues. In 2023 and 2024, I experienced four miscarriages, followed by a layoff from my corporate job. These experiences deepened my appreciation for the gift of life, made me realize how quickly things can change, and inspired me to create Holland & Hygge, where I could channel my passions into something meaningful.
The concept of hygge, which I discovered through Meik Wiking's “The Little Book of Hygge,” resonated with me a few years ago. It’s all about finding joy in the simple things - like intentional moments with loved ones, slowing down, and embracing coziness. After visiting Scandinavian countries such as Amsterdam, Sweden, and Denmark, I wanted to embody that same warmth and thoughtfulness in my gift boxes.
What excites me most about Holland & Hygge is creating gifts for others to appreciate while making a positive impact. Each thoughtfully curated gift is a simple gesture that goes a long way; it’s a way for people to spread kindness and be a light to others.
